Here we go, day one in blog world! Today is ten days after the New Year and the day I’m starting my new life! 2010 is going to be the year of change for me, awesome & exciting sort of change! I made several new years resolutions which I decided not to start until today. It’s too hard to just make all these huge changes overnight, much easier when it’s gradual….so I gave myself 10 days to decide what I was going to do to change my life. Here are my resolutions:

1. Lose weight! Unfortunately, ever since Steven moved in with me 2.5 years ago (not his fault, just fact) I have gradually and pretty rapidly gained weight. It has 100% to do with the ramen noodle/mickey D’s/bud heavy diet Steven introduced me to…I mean, before I met him I had maybe ate Chinese takeout once in my entire life. Since he was my roomie, it’s been an almost weekly (sometimes more…I know, gross!) staple. I’ve always done the yo-yo dieting…yanno, WW & low carb & back n forth. Long story short..IT DOESN’T WORK. Now I’m trying it the most sensible way. Eat less calories, more filling and nutritionally sustainable food and become way more active!! …which leads me into my next resolution.

2. Run a 5k in 30 minutes. I know, not exactly amazing. I’m sure all of you can do sub 30 min 5k’s but I’m kind of extremely new to the whole “running” thing. I just don’t do it. Running scares me. I feel like everyone’s staring at me and judging how I run (weird? yes.). So, I’m going to turn to the healthy living blogs as my go-to guide and start with the Galloway Method that Caitlin mentions in her blog.

3. Submit my nursing school application! I am 21 years old, actually if we’re going to be completely honest, 21 years & 11 months. That means I SHOULD be graduating in 4 months. Am I? No. #&%@!! I actually chose to not graduate on time but it is still very frustrating when all of my other friends are graduating soon! I would have graduated on time, well maybe even a semester early, if I had continued on my track to an advertising degree from USF. However, the way the economy is and the fact that I know roughly a dozen people with the same degree and NO JOB OFFERS, I decided to switch it up. I went BACK TO SCHOOL the fall of my Junior year and am now on track to go to nursing school. Yep, prettyyy different from advertising which means I had to take quite a couple of “catching up” classes at the local community college since I hadn’t taken a science class of any type since I was in high school! Oh well, I just have to keep telling myself that it’s TOTALLY worth it. Job security is worth it!!!

So, today I’ll share you how my first day with my resolutions went…

I woke up at 7:00am but it was freezing…INSIDE my house. Apparently someone decided it made more sense to turn our AC on in our house than our heater?? When it was like 20 degrees outside?? Yeah, reallll awesome. I was shaking and did not want to get out of bed so instead I piled under the covers (made a quick run to the thermostat to turn the heat ON) and hibernated until about noon. Yikes! Not such a great start but it was sooo cold :)

For lunch, I made a delicious homemade veggie pizza.

1/4 cup of 2%milk italian cheese

1/4 cup marinara sauce

1 Boboli pizza crust

Handfuls of spinach, tomatoes, mushrooms, red peppers and green peppers

nom nom, love me some veggie pizza!!

Afterwards, Leslie (she’s my best friend and one of my roommates and will,I’m sure, frequent this blog lots so get to know her!) and I went to Homegoods & Plato’s Closet. I bought 2 really cute plates and a pretty bowl that I’ll wait to show you until when I use them. At Plato’s I got a super cute pair of “everyday” black heels for 8 bucks!! Such a steal…pics manana!

Then Leslie & I headed to my parents for my Mama’s birthday dinner. We had a big pot of chili, big pot of veggie soup & hot dogs. I stuck with a piping hot delicious bowl of veggie soup, a side of multigrain bread & a glass of ginger ale. I almost never drink ginger ale but for some reason I was seriously craving it!

This veggie soup hit the spot on such a cold night like tonight!!

I drank my ginger ale out of this fun glass. B for Bri!

We polished off our meal with Mama’s birthday cake, a buttermilk cake with some secret family recipe chocolate frosting. I had a couple delicious nibbles.

Mama cutting into her birthday cake..

delicious!!

We capped off the night with a big game of Scattergories with the family. Hilarious and so much fun!! We always come up with the most ridiculous answers and makes us all laugh so much!

Now, I’m back home and going back to bed so that I can hopefully wake up on time for work in the morning. Please bare (bear?) with me as I try to understand my blog and how to link/upload/html correctly. It will be a work in progress just like my new lifestyle will be a work in progress…but I am soooo excited for the challenge!!!

See you on the sunny side!
